Dr. Unni Nair has been a physician at Ophthalmology Associates since 2010. He is committed to delivering excellence in glaucoma care for his patients in Fort Worth and Weatherford.
Dr. Nair’s family moved around when he was a child. He grew up in a wide range of cities including Detroit, Waco, and Montgomery AL. He also spent part of his childhood in south India. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he was inspired by a wonderful mentor to join the field of ophthalmology. Upon graduation from medical school, he pursued his ophthalmology residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He had the privilege of being trained there by many distinguished leaders in ophthalmology. He also had the privilege of treating a very diverse patient population with a variety of ophthalmic health issues. Practicing in this region also gave Dr. Nair a good grounding in medical Spanish. After his general training, he completed a glaucoma subspecialty fellowship under Dr. Jon Ruderman and Dr Lisa Rosenberg at a busy private practice in downtown Chicago.
Ophthalmology Associates has a 40+ year rich history of excellence in eye care in the Fort Worth region. Dr Nair is proud to be a provider for this practice. He sees a variety of glaucoma and general ophthalmology patients. He offers the latest in medical, laser and surgical treatment for glaucoma. He is proficient in cataract/ lens implant surgery, offering toric and multifocal lens implants for patients motivated to reduce their dependence on glasses.
“Glaucoma is a poorly understood disease; my goal is to educate my patients and provide them with the best care to defend against blindness. Every year we learn something new about glaucoma and it is an exciting time to practice in this field.“ Patients consistently appreciate Dr Nair’s attention to detail, his demeanor and his thoughtful explanations that simplify complex ocular issues for patients. Dr. Nair is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is active with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society. Dr Nair volunteers as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he has given lectures at the John Lynn Glaucoma Symposium. He is also involved with glaucoma surgical training at John Peter Smith Hospital. He enjoys clinical research and is currently a sub-investigator as part of the ongoing glaucoma clinical trials at Ophthalmology Associates. He has also authored and co-authored publications ranging from clinical book chapters in Ophthalmology to presentations at AAO and ARVO meetings.
In his spare time, Dr Nair enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 young daughters. He volunteers at vision screenings for BAPS charities in Irving. He enjoys playing basketball with friends and is avid sports fan. Being from Alabama, Dr Nair enjoys discussing college football events with his patients. His favorite sports memory? Being able to attend Game 4 of the 2011 NBA Championships and witness the Dallas Mavericks defeat the Miami Heat.
