Cataract Surgery, Corneal Transplantation, and Ocular Surface Reconstruction
Dr. Sandhya “Sandy” Iyer is a fellowship-trained and board-certified Ophthalmologist specializing in Cataract Surgery and the Medical and Surgical Management of Corneal Disease.
She received her medical degree from the University of Pune in India and proceeded to complete her Residency in Ophthalmology at Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, India. She then moved to the United Kingdom and completed her second Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Glasgow.
After taking a career break to have her son and moving to the U.S. Dr. Iyer completed her third Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Florida, Gainesville, as well as, completing a Glaucoma Research Fellowship. Dr. Iyer went on to successfully complete a Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
In 2008, Dr. Iyer joined the faculty of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas as an Assistant Professor specializing in Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery.
She routinely performs the full array of Corneal Transplantations including Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK and DSEK), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty, or DALK 9, for Keratoconus and Penetrating Keratoplasty (full-thickness corneal transplants).
After a decade in academic practice training residents and fellows in Cataract and Cornea Surgery, Dr. Iyer decided she was ready for a change and joined Ophthalmology Associates. She brings with her a unique perspective of Ophthalmology due to her extensive training and experience in three different continents and health economies.
Dr. Iyer is excited to move to Fort Worth and become an active member of the medical community in Tarrant County. Ophthalmology Associates is excited to be able to offer her skills, expertise, and services to our community.
Outside of work, Dr. Iyer loves to read, do yoga, listen to podcasts, watch movies and new TV shows, and spend time with her family and friends.
